ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDE
When you start preparing for your engagement session, there are a few things to think about. This is supposed to be fun, not stressful or awkward! This is the shoot with zero pressure. Your engagement session is our chance to get to know each other, get comfortable with how I work and chat about all of your fun stories that make you a unique couple. Your wedding day will be EPIC, but it’s so helpful to have a great engagement session before the big day so that you know what to expect! Couples that have an engagement session are pros by the wedding day and it totally shows!!
Note: I like to meet with couples an hour before the engagement session to connect and get even more comfortable before we start photographing. We will chat about your love story and get to know each other even more. A close by coffee shop or pub is perfect for this.
Location + Time
When it comes to picking the location for your portraits, I love shooting engagements in locations that mean something you! If that is your home or an cozy coffee shop where you first met, let's talk about that. For locations outdoors - you've probably heard of golden hour. It's when the magic happens and the light is stunning (1 hour after sunrise or 1 hour before sunset) These are generally the best times to photograph and this rule of thumb can be applied to any time of the year.
Most couples bring an outfit change to add some variety within the session, one casual and one a little dressier. The best advice I can give about outfit selection would be to try to coordinate with each other instead of matching. Try to stay away from crazy patterns, they can be distracting. Also, bold jewelry, scarves, and colored shoes photograph really well! Make sure you look like yourselves and most importantly, feel comfortable!
Relax + Have Fun
Everyone has the "I don't know what to do with my hands" moment when they first step in front of the camera. It's like all of the sudden there is intense pressure to perform or fake smile. F O R G E T all of that. Your engagement session is going to be fun! Play games, make-out a little and laugh a lot. Most importantly, be yourselves and I will take care of the rest.
I love adventure, as you can probably tell. I like to hike, get in the water and I have been known to hop a few fences for some incredible shoots (shhhh don't tell anyone). Whatever your wild spirit is telling you, listen to it, throw it at me and I will likely be totally up for it. I want to tell the whole story of your wild love so you can share your grand adventure with everyone back home.
